Understanding TAB

What is TAB Testing?

The U.S. Department of Energy and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 have developed standards and requirements for commercial facilities. Balancing contractors ensure these standards and requirements are met through TAB Testing.

Testing: We use specialized equipment and instruments to measure the performance of your HVAC System. We measure things like temperature, pressure, electrical characteristics, velocities and quantities of air and water.

Adjusting: From the results of our testing, we adjust the HVAC System's devices to achieve maximum efficiency and performance. This includes adjusting equipment like dampers, valves, thermostats, pressure controls, fan speeds, and pump speeds.

Balancing: This process ensures that the distribution of air and water is even throughout your building. The end results are a comfortable building with the correct amount of ventilation, air changes, and room pressure.

When is TAB Testing Needed?

01

New Construction

To get your certificate of occupancy, you need to make sure the HVAC System conforms with the designed specifications.

02

Remodels

Any changes made to a building's floor plan or its type of operation will affect the HVAC System.

03

Sick Building Syndrome

Your building is sick if you notice things like humidity, noise, and drafts. TAB Testing can help you solve these issues.

04

Negative Building Pressure

Is it hard to open doors or is there outdoor debris in your building? Then your building is out of balance.

05

Hot & Cold Spots

TAB Testing avoids hot and cold spots in your building by ensuring the conditioned air is evenly distributed.

06

Maintenance Programs

Keep air quality, comfort, and efficiency at peak performance by re-balancing your HVAC System every 3 years.

TAB Testing Services

Comprehensive testing and balancing for every aspect of your HVAC system.

01

Air Balancing

HVAC systems require periodic balancing to keep operating efficiencies and improve the performance of equipment. By using our air systems balancing services, we can help your facility save money and improve overall comfort.

02

Hydronic Balancing

For better performance of hydronic equipment, your facility should undergo hydronic systems balancing. Our water balancing services ensure the proper flow of water to and from pumps and coils.

03

Air Duct Leaks

Leaks in air ducts affect the overall comfort of your building and waste energy. We use tools to measure the pressure and flow of an air duct to create a plan for fixing leaks.

04

Design Review

BalCon offers construction document checks to ensure you have the most efficient process in place for your new construction.

05

Energy Management

We use Ultrasonic and Energy Rate Measurement tools to ensure your commercial building or mechanical process is running as the design intended.

06

Critical Space Testing

We provide testing and adjustments to maintain compliance parameters for critical spaces like those found in hospitals and outpatient facilities.
